I believe there are so many ways to use WIKI in your classroom. I would be able to use WIKI with my students in many different ways as in brainstorming ideas for a project or sharing information they're learning on a research project or any book they are reading.
I have found many different WIKIs that are informational about behavioral management and that fits perfectly with my PDP(professional development plan) that I am currently working on, so that will help me our greatly toward my overall goals. I would also be able to use WIKIs to communicate with other professionals about any educational/professional questions/concerns that I might have.
I think that WIKIs are different from blogs and RSS feeds because it allows you to add or change things that are already written. I don't know if this is neccessarily a good thing in every circumstance only because I have seen some WIKIs such as Wikipedia that you can tell have been written by opinion and not fact.

I wonder if you could even create your own wiki with your PDP work in it and share it with your mentor and your review committee. That would be a really logical way to get feedback and submit a final project. It really lends itself to a kind of professional portfolio.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that wikis are different in the ability to change what has been presented, instead of just reading it. I also just thought of the idea that on a wiki, you are able to have links to other sections of the wiki, or a menu on the side. In this way, you get a bit of an overview of the entire content of the wiki, which doesn't happen as well with a blog or RSS feed, as the newer information is what is presented and staying on top.
ReplyDeleteThe wiki really can be like an entire website. You can add multiple pages, link them together and even add that menu along the side. You can also add images, video, and link to other files. It allows the creator to add more of a structure than you can do with blogs where you only have the tags for each post as an organizer. Most wikis also allow you to add tags to each page if you want.
