Social Bookmarking

I think that social bookmarking is quite interesting. I never realized that there were sites that would make it possible for you to bookmark on one computer and then view them on any other.

I think the main difference between Dingo and delicious is that Dingo has the ability for many people to add bookmarks to the same page as delicious shares bookmarks from a number of people but not necessarily on the same homepage. I hope that I am understanding and stating this correctly.

BuddyMarks seems to me like the Dingo site where a bunch of people can add to one "common" ground. I think that I could use this in my teaching career by all of my co-workers of my grade tag websites of interest and that relate to our curriculum. This way we don't have to worry about saving this information in our "own storage" of our school accounts and running out of space.

Personally, I think that delicious is a great website, however, I think that I would use Dingo and BuddyMarks because it seems to be easier to collaborate with my colleagues.

  1. I agree with you. Diigo seems like the better place to collaborate with an exclusive group from work or from a class. You can identify the group members and share the bookmarks you've tagged with each other. I feel it is an awesome tool for educators who often search for sites in their "free time." I think the highlighting and sticky note capabilities make Diigo more user friendly for educators who bookmark specific information to share with others including students.

  2. I didn't know that you could bookmark on the internet until this lesson either. I didn't think about saving space with bookmarking so I am happy you brought that up. These bookmarking websites would be a great way to save space on your computers and/or storage spaces and keep your computer running at full speed. Good idea!

  3. I didn't know that you could bookmark websites online either before this lesson. I also like that you brought up the idea of saving space, this would help keep your computer running better as well as your server if you are at school saving to a shared drive. Great ideas thanks for sharing.

  4. You can actually set up a network in delicious that is a little like the group in Diigo, but I think it is more intuitive in Diigo.

BuddyMarks is actually a more controlled environment, so if you are in an elementary school, this may be the way to go. There are things in delicious that may be inappropriate for elementary students. Generally you wouldn't come across them if you are directing students to specific tags, but it is important to be aware of them.
